BIO

French digital artist, curator and lecturer. A practice at the crossroads of art, media and innovation.

Michaël Borras, known as Systaime, is a French digital artist, curator and lecturer. He formulated French Trash Touch in 1995 and, from 1999 onward, developed a critical body of work about the cultural, social and political transformations produced by technology and networks.

Through video, installation, performance, immersive environments, generative works, interactive systems and music, Systaime develops a transdisciplinary practice that questions our relationship with images, information, systems of power and new forms of communication.

A graduate of the National School of Art in Limoges, he has presented work in museums, art centres, festivals and biennials worldwide, including the Whitney Museum of American Art, Centre Pompidou, UNESCO House, Ars Electronica, Watermans Arts Centre, Arebyte Gallery, Electromuseum Moscow, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Caracas, NFT Factory, EP7 and The Wrong Biennale.

In 2011 he founded SPAMM (SuPer Modern Art Museum), one of the first virtual museums dedicated to digital art. A forerunner of dematerialised exhibition spaces, SPAMM has connected more than one thousand artists from over eighty countries, producing exhibitions, events and artistic collaborations in physical and virtual venues.

Alongside his art practice, Systaime works extensively in curating, education and mediation. He regularly contributes to art schools, universities, symposia and talks, including invitations from the French Ministry of Culture concerning new artistic uses of the web and emerging technologies.

His work has been the subject of publications, reports and analysis in media including Libération, The New York Times, The Verge, Vice, Télérama, Technikart, France Culture, HuffPost, Canal+ and ARTE. His work distributed across digital platforms has generated billions of views.

At the meeting point of art, media and innovation, Systaime explores influence, surveillance and the production of contemporary narratives. A historical figure of international digital art, he continues to question humanity’s place in a world shaped by information flows, algorithms and images.
