UNESCO CREATIVE CITIES PAVILION

VISAGES DE PORCEL(AI)NE was selected by the organisers of the 16th Gwangju Contemporary Art Biennale to represent the City of Limoges in the UNESCO Creative Cities Pavilion.

The Gwangju Biennale is one of Asia’s major international gatherings for contemporary art. It brings together artists, curators, institutions and audiences around the most current forms of creation: image, installation, performance, technology, memory and society.

The UNESCO Creative Cities Pavilion brings together cities that make culture, design, digital art and innovation engines of cooperation. This invitation places the Limoges ↔ Gwangju dialogue on an international stage, between porcelain expertise, heritage and contemporary creation.

ARTIST’S STATEMENT

MATTER,
MEMORY,
TRANSMISSION.

Matter is not invoked as mere ornament: its milky whiteness, translucency, delicate reliefs, fractures and shifts of light shape the very identity of the figures, dissolving the boundary between body and ceramic.

Each portrait arises from an encounter between the porcelain traditions of Limoges — their rigour, precision and sense of decoration — and Korean ceramic legacies, which carry another relationship to matter, emptiness and gesture.

Artificial intelligence acts as one medium among others: not to imitate artisans’ gestures, but to explore new forms, create imperceptible movements and weave connections between references from different places and eras.

What is transmitted is never reproduced unchanged. It is received, passed through, and made alive again.
01

MATTER & IDENTITY

Whiteness, translucency, fractures and light form an almost mineral presence.

02

DIALOGUE OF TRADITIONS

Limoges, Korean heritage and contemporary technologies: places, eras and gestures meet.

03

FRACTURE & REPAIR

The visible break becomes a sign of resilience and a line of light.

04

METAMORPHOSIS

Identity is built layer by layer in a perpetual becoming.

A MODULAR
INSTALLATION.

The six works can be presented on screens, tablets or phones adapted to the venue. Their slow movement, direct framing and silence invite attention to the transformations of matter and the circulation of light.
